Abstract

With the progress of computing and popularization of Internet, the society has entered in the information age. A new period in which our life is defined by the way we produce and deal with information. Daily, thousands of Gigabytes of data are produced and stored without being a really efficient way to process or infer knowledge from that. Despite all the advances in relation to the storage and data retrieval, the value of the information is reduced if it cannot be translated into knowledge. Thus, we can say that the value of the data stored is proportional to the amount of information that is understood by the user on an exploratory process. In this master's project, we propose the use of information visualization to enhance the analytical and exploratory power of web-based tools, allowing users to process more information by providing different types of analysis that are not currently available. At the end, we expect that more data can be interpreted with less effort, reducing the loss of information during the process. Moreover, with the compression of the visual representations, we also expect to improve the user experience on exploring information on mobile devices, where visual space is limited.
