Abstract

The kidneys have a major role in the maintenance of life because they do many functions that ensure homeostasis. Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is usually observed in dogs and cats, regardless of etiology, is characterized by irreversible structural lesions, which may progress to renal failure progressively. In CKD is the inability to adequately perform the duties of maintaining balanced electrolyte and acid-base excretion of catabolites and hormonal regulation. Furthermore, the hematopoietic system may also be compromised, and anemia disorder is most commonly seen. The production of platelets and coagulation factors may be normal, although platelet function may be compromised, featuring a frame thrombasthenia, which can result in bleeding. Thus, studying platelet function through bleeding time in dogs in different stages of CKD is the goal of the present study. Therefore, we will study five healthy dogs (control group) and another twenty CKD naturally acquired from the Kennel Research in Veterinary Nephrology and Urology (GPNUV), and service Service of Nephrology and Urology (SNUV) Hospital "Governor Laudo Natel "FCAV / Unesp Jaboticabal (SP). These animals will be divided into four groups according to the stage of CKD according to the classification of "International Renal Interest Society" (IRIS) respectively in chronic renal failure patients with grades I, II, III and IV. The laboratory evaluations will include a blood count and bleeding time for the study of primary hemostasis in CKD. (AU)
