Abstract

There is great importance in the evaluation of performance traits and carcass components of broilers. Based on the heritability estimates of these traits, it is possible to obtain large progress by selecting the performance traits. The study aimed to estimate genetic and phenotypic parameters for body weight at 42 days of age, weight gain and feed conversion between days 35 and 41, and abdominal fat and skin weight in a strain of broilers to provide subsidies for breeding programs. Data are from a poultry line from the Poultry Breeding Program of Embrapa Swine and Poultry, Concordia, SC. Genetic parameters will be estimated by Restricted Maximum Likelihood (REML), using an animal model for multivariate analysis, considering the fixed effects of group (sex and hatch) and the random additive genetic and residual.
