Abstract

The chicken meat production in Brazil has a recognized importance in world economy as a result of the continuous improvement of performance traits, mainly due to breeding programs. Selected animals for rapid growth and increased muscle deposition also exhibited increased fat deposition in carcass. The excess of fat deposition in carcass is a negative factor to the production considering the cost, the difficulty of processing and also the product depreciation. The identification of genetic components responsible for a part of phenotypic variation is fundamental in breeding programs allowing the selection of animals which have the phenotypic trait of interest. Fat deposition is a trait controlled by several genes that participate in lipid metabolism. New technologies such as high throughput genotyping that uses SNP chips have allowed the genomic association with genotype and different phenotypic trait of interest. The aim of this study is to identify regions and candidates genes associated with traits related to fat deposition and carcass yield by genome wide association (GWAS). To achieve this objective, it will be performed the genotyping of 2,000 animals with high dense SNP chip Chicken 600K Affymetrix®Axiom® (1,500 from the broiler reference population TT and 500 from F2 experimental population, both from EMBRAPA Swine and Poultry). GWAS will be performed for 22 phenotypes involved in fat deposition and carcass yield. It is expected to find genomic regions associated with these traits. The results will allow the identification of positional candidate genes related to the traits studied. (AU)
