Abstract

Endogenous protection mechanisms against damages promoted by solar radiation are insufficient, therefore it is important to use photoprotective formulations, both corporal and labial, in order to minimize the damages caused by this radiation. Lip balms are preparations that protect lips against adverse environmental factors and prevent them from drying. As an example, sunscreen lip balms, protect the lip mucous membrane from ultraviolet A and B radiation. They are composed of solar filters (active ingredients), additives, and greasy compounds, among others, which may influence the photoprotective efficacy of the preparation. This project's objectives are development of sunscreen lip balm formulations, physical and organoleptic characterization, in vitro efficacy evaluation by integrating sphere diffuse reflectance spectrophotometry, and evaluation the physical and functional stability of sunscreen lip balms by the long-term stability test.
