Abstract

In recent decades the development of nanostructures material has increased due to its unique properties. Among these materials titanate nanotubes has been attracted much attention due to its open and mesoporous structures, high surface area, band gap energy corresponding to UV region, ion-exchange capacity, functionalization and electrical conductivity, which allows its application in conversion and energy storage devices, magnetic materials, electrocatalysis and photocatalysis. However, these materials are able to absorb UV radiation only, which is about 5% of the incident radiation from the Sun on the Earth, which influences their photocatalytic activity. This application can be also affected by recombination of photogenerated electron due the presence of vacancies in the structure. This project aims the synthesis of titanate nanotubes through hydrothermal synthesis, and then doped with nitrogen using ion-exchange methodology. The titanate nanotubes will be morphological and structural characterized and then employed in the manufacturing of electrodes to study of photoelectrochemical properties in reaction of photocatalytic oxidation of organic pollutant as well as photoassisted water split and generation of hydrogen.
