Abstract

Through the difficulties and limitations encountered in bone reconstructive surgery, tissue engineering has been highlighted in regenerative therapies through the manufacturing and development of new bio-devices to stimulate proper bone healing in clinical situations where there is a need for grafting. Thus, new biomaterials are constantly being tested to serve as support for the three-dimensional growth of new tissue in the quality of bone injury. The objective of this study is to evaluate the osteogenic potential of a new elastin matrix derived from bovine cartilage. For this, 24 mice will be used where the surgical procedure will be subjected to create a defect with 5mm diameter in the left parietal bone of the skull that can be implanted matrices elastin. After 3 and 8 weeks after surgery, the animals will be euthanized and samples of the receiving area of the implant matrix will be subjected to routine histological methods. The macroscopic analysis will be performed, radiological, histological, and morphometric statistics to study the biocompatibility of the matrix as well as its ability to promote bone formation essential for the repair of the defect.(AU)
