Abstract

A new route for the racemic synthesis of a sesquiterpene using as a key step a ring contraction reaction promoted by iodine(III) developed in our group is presented. In ten steps from a commercially available starting material - 5-methoxy-1-tetralone - we will be able to reach a natural product whose synthesis was not described so far. The natural product, as well as advanced intermediated, will be evaluated toward anti-tumor activity in the laboratory of Prof. J. E. de Carvalho (UNICAMP). (AU)
