Bond strength and contact angle of experimental infiltrant materials

Abstract

The aim of this study will be to evaluate the microtensile bond strength and contact angle of infiltrant materials with dimethyl sulfoxide. Sixty bovine incisors will be used in the microtensile bond strength test. The teeth roots will be discarded and coronal fragments will be sectioned mesiodistally to produce subsurface, artificial, enamel caries lesions. Each specimen will be kept individually into 50 mL of 0.05 M acetate buffer solution, pH 5.0, 50% saturated regarding hydroxyapatite for 10h at 37ºC. The samples will be randomly distributed into 6 groups (n=5), according to the infiltrant composition (G1- ICON®; G2- ICON® + dimethyl sulfoxide; G3- 75% TEGDMA + 25% UDMA; G4- 75% TEGDMA + 25% BisEMA; G5- 75% TEGDMA + 25% UDMA + dimethyl sulfoxide; G6- 75% TEGDMA + 25% BisEMA + dimethyl sulfoxide) to the microtensile bond strength analysis. After the infiltration, hourglass shape specimens will be obtained and submitted to the microtensile bond strength test in an EZ test machine with a crosshead speed of 1mm/min. To the contact angle measurement, a viscosimeter GBX Instrumentation Scientifique will be used. The infiltrants (the same groups used for the bond strength test) will be dropped (about 1 µl) over glass slides and the drop image will be analyzed using the software. Five measurements will be carried out for each infiltrant, and thus, the contact angle average will be calculated. (AU)
