Abstract

Many are the aspects that should be taken into account when discussing better education. They include all the agents involved, as well as the physical installations, since they influence the learning abilities of students. The characterization of the school design process for the Fundação para o Desenvolvimento da Educação (FDE) outlined some possibilities for improvement, highlighting the need for tools to support the design process. Such tools can be of importance for many of the phases of this process, with special attention given to the architectural program. School building design is complex due to the dynamics and advances in education, reflected in teaching methods, which require constant updating of the brief. The program should articulate values to which an architect should respond, and a participatory design process is recommended to include wider views of users. This research project aims to develop a tool to support the architectural design process at the programming stage, based on specific design patterns for the Brazilian reality. The literature on games indicates that participatory design processes can profit from tools based on this format, with the appropriate rules and iconography as a support. The goal is to provide a productive and creative support for the school design process and indirectly improve the learning environment of public school in the State of São Paulo. (AU)
