Abstract

Million people die every year victims of malignancies around the world. The statistics are worrying, since an improvement in this situation is not expected for the next years, because of the global trend of aging population. The increasing tendency of malignancies in the world and the rise of public spending on treatment of this group of diseases make this a complex theme. The currently therapy are helped by a wide therapeutic arsenal, but the high level of toxicity and low selectivity still being problems that make the treatment extremely complicated. Capsaicin, substance that causes the hot pungency taste presented by peppers of Capsicum genus, through several studies, has proved to be an important natural agent with ability to cause cytotoxicity on tumor cells. Therefore, the capsaicin is an important prototype for design and synthesis of new bioactive molecules with more effective activity against cancer. This study intends to design and synthesize sulfonamides and sulfonates analogues of capsaicin, oriented by chemical similarities with the capsaicinoid structure. Subsequently, it is intended to evaluate the antitumor activity of each molecule by MTT viability assay and determine a structure-activity relationship for the both series through the hologram quantitative structure-activity relationship (HQSAR) method. Thus, this investigation intends to contribute with cancer research and improve the cancer therapy, providing benefits for the population. (AU)
