Abstract

The aim of this study is to identify the concern about body shape and its relationship with nutritional status and demographic characteristics of students of a Pharmaceutical Science course. Students (n=433) enrolled in the undergraduate course at UNESP/Araraquara in the year 2013, in the full-time and night periods will be invited to participate. To characterize the sample, information will be collected with regard to sex, age, semester, period, course area, expectation, and performance in course, students' perception of professors' competence and conditions at the university, housing, study financing, use of medication due to studies, thoughts about desisting from the course, and presence of work activities. Evaluation of the socioeconomic level will be made using the Criterion "Critério Brasil - ABEP". Self-reported weight (Kg) and height (m) will be used for classifying the nutritional status and Body Mass Index (BMI). Concern about body shape will be evaluated using the Body Shape Questionnaire - BSQ. Psychometric characteristics of BSQ (psychometric sensitivity, validity of construct, and internal consistency) will be evaluated. Confirmatory factor analysis will be performed, using the quality adjustment indices x2/gl, GFI, CFI, and RMSEA. Internal consistency will be estimated by Cronbach's coefficient alpha. The mean BSQ scores according to the variables of interest will be compared by means of the Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) after the presuppositions of normality and homoscedasticity have been tested. The level of significance to be adopted will be 5%. (AU)
