Abstract

Aim: to estimate the contribution of body image, eating behavior and health perception to the quality of life of Brazilian and Portuguese college students. Methods: college students from a Brazilian and a Portuguese institutions of higher education will participate this study. Data collection will be conducted between 2014 and 2016. The construct 'body image' will be evaluated by the scales "Concern Weight (WCS)", "Concern with body shape (BSQ)" and "Male body dissatisfaction (MBDS)". The eating behavior will be estimated using the "Three-Factor Eating Questionnaire (TFEQ)", the perception of health by "Perceived Health Competence Scale (PHCS)", and the quality of life by the brief version of the scale proposed by the World Health Organization (WHOQOL-bref). Content, construct (factorial, convergent and discriminant), concurrent and divergent validity of the scales will be estimated. The reliability will also be assessed. The confirmatory factor analysis will be conducted and the goodness of fit indices used will be Ç2/df, CFI, NFI and RMSEA. The convergent validity will be calculated by the Average Variance Extracted (AVE). The concurrent and divergent validity will be estimated by principal component analysis. The reliability will be measured by the Composite Reliability (CR) and internal consistency calculated by the standardized Cronbach's alpha coefficient (±). The invariance of the scales when applied to Brazilian and Portuguese students will be evaluated by multigroup analyzes (”Ç2). Structural models will be produced resorting to structural equation modeling (SEM) where the "Quality of life" will be the central construct. The goodness of fit of the model will be determined by the goodness of fit indices (Ç2/df, CFI, NFI and RMSEA) and the significance of the causal paths (²) will be estimated by the z test. (AU)
