Abstract

This project aims to evaluate the performance of visual, radiographic and laser fluorescence methods regarding the detection of caries in permanent and deciduous teeth, also to perform a meta-analysis of the overall performance of the methods and to investigate potential sources of heterogeneity to better understand the controversial results in the literature. Will be performed three different revisions related to each diagnostic method. Four examiners will evaluate the articles, at least two per method. These will make the search and selection of articles independently, a researcher with experience in caries diagnosis will solve cases of conflict or doubt. The electronic databases will be used MEDLINE, EMBASE and Scopus, to reduce publication bias, will also be pursued academic studies and unpublished documents, through OpenSigle and Annals of ORCA Congress. After selecting studies for inclusion and exclusion through criteria clearly defined, the data will be collected and annotated independently by each reviewer. Will be held the methodological quality assessment tool through QUADAS (Quality Assessment of Diagnostic Accuracy Studies) and statistical analysis using Paired Forest Plot, SROC (summary ROC), RDOR (relative diagnostic odds ratio), sensitivity analysis and funnel plot, addition to research and exploration of possible sources of heterogeneity.
