Abstract

The research aims, starting from a study among two South American urban agglomerates, the Metropolitan Area of São Paulo-SP (RMSP) and the Metropolitan Area of Santiago do Chile (AMS), to enlarge the analysis of the urban Latin-American landscapes, exploring the singularities of each reality. The object of analysis in both cases will be the urban dynamics of the real estate production for population with low and high income, the urban form of their products and the resulting open space system. The work aims to analyze the different processes that impact in the landscape and their historical, social and political particularities, important for the understanding of the contemporary urban reality. It is believed that this study can demonstrate that those real estate products present a territorial configuration that contributes to the social-spatial segregation. Such situation, present in both South American cases, will be able to demonstrate similarities among the studied objects, in way to provide a larger understanding of the current social-spatial segregation in Latin-Americans metropolitan areas.
