Audiological profile of elderly hypertensive and / or diabetic

Abstract

Introduction: Studies have shown that chronic diseases that affect the elderly, such as Diabetes Mellitus (DM) and hypertension (AH), may be related to hearing disorders. Objective: To compare the initial audiometry (A1) with a sequential audiometry (A2) after two years in a population of elderly patients with diabetes and / or hypertension in order to know if there was a worsening of auditory acuity in this population with passing the years. We will conduct a comparative study of four groups of elderly: the control group (CG) comprised elderly without metabolic changes, the group of elderly patients with diabetes mellitus (DM), the group of elderly patients with arterial hypertension (AH), the group in elderly patients with diabetes mellitus and hypertension (DMHA). Methods: There will be a survey in records (A1) and new audiological assessment (A2) of 80 elderly participants of the project ELSA Brazil - São Paulo (Longitudinal Study of Adult Health), 20 subjects with DM (DM group) 20 individuals with HA (AH group), 20 patients with DM and HA (DMHA group) and 20 subjects without DM nor HA (GC), treated at University Hospital (UH) in the period from 2009 to 2012. These data will be compared audiological evaluation among the four groups, mainly comparing hearing thresholds for the presence or absence of hearing loss in each group and between groups.
