Abstract

Myoepithelial cell is an epithelial cell that presents some aspects of smooth muscle cells and is present not only in the salivary gland, but also in other exocrine glands such as mammary, sweat, lacrimal, and mucous and mucous-serous gland of digestive tract. In the past, it was believed that its role was restricted to the contractile function in order to help the excretion of glandular content. However, nowadays, it is known that this cell has many other functions in embryogenesis, normal gland and in tumors as well. Based on studies that show a possible role of myoepithelial cells in defense against the cancer invasion and taking the Carcinoma Ex Pleomorphic Adenoma as a model, a malignant neoplasm arising in a Pleomorphic Adenoma in wich the malignancy occurs most frequently in luminal cells, the goal of this project is to verify in an in vitro study the influence of benign neoplastic myoepithelial cells of Pleomorphic Adenomas of the salivary gland in the production of gelatinases (MMP-2 and MMP-9) and collagenase (MMP-1, MMP-8 and MMP-13) by malignant epithelial cells of ductal carcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma, correlating to the rate of invasion.
