Abstract

The knowledge about biological diversity existing on Earth is still scarce. Parasites represent a "hidden diversity" within the explicit diversity that we are able to see with "naked eyes", playing an important role in biodiversity for all ecosystems. Parasites in an ecosystem contribute to the regulation of local diversity of hosts, and they are also important in environmental management plans and wildlife. However, systematic helminthes inventory associated with wild animals in several Brazilian biomes are scarce, mainly in diverse physiognomic vegetation of Northeastern Caatinga. The main objective of this project is to characterize the composition and structure of helminth component community associated with amphibians in five distinct physiognomic vegetation found in six localities Caatinga biome: the municipalities of Crato, Barbalha, Aiuaba, Barro, Araripe and Missão Velha, in the South of Ceará state. Additionally, ecological parameters of host-parasite interactions will be related to biological, ecological and phylogenetic features of host species.
