Identification and early intervention of the developmental coordination disorder in students at beginning of schooling

Abstract

This research project will be developed in two studies: Study 1 aims to identify motor function alteration in students in early stage of schooling. 100 students of both genders, aged between 6 years to 7 years and 11 months will participate this study. The students will be submitted to the Movement Assessment Battery for Children. The parents and teachers of these students will be submitted to the application of the Developmental Coordination Disorder Questionnaire, Portuguese version, for identification of motor alteration. Results: The results will be analyzed statistically. The Study 2 aims to (1) developing a motor intervention program, (2) verifying the effectiveness of motor intervention program and (3) verifying the prevalence of Developmental Coordination Disorder in the studied population. Only students that present motor alteration in the battery of assessment used in study 1 will participate in this study 2. These students will be submitted to a program of motor intervention with occupational therapist for seven weeks. After the intervention, the students will be submitted to the procedures of Study 1 to verify the effectiveness of the program prepared and the prevalence of Developmental Coordination Disorder in students who did not respond to intervention. The results of Study 2 will be statistically analyzed. (AU)
