Antimicrobial resistance profile in Salmonella enterica isolated from poultry and detection of invA gene in serovars Senftenberg and Saint Paul

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the resistance profile of Salmonella enteric serovar frequently isolated in Brazilian farms during the years 2002-2011. These serotypes are also commonly isolated in cases of zoonosis being a serious public health concern, since the resistance of these strains may prolonger the treatment of salmonellosis. Analyses will be performed by disk diffusion method on Mueller-Hinton agar according to the Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute. Another problem discussed in this project is related to Salmonella identification, seeking the presence of the invA gene in servers, which is considered as a target gene for Salmonella enteric detection. Recent studies show that this gene may not be present in all servers, highlighting the importance of further analyses. Extracted genomic DNA of serotypes S.Senftenberg and S. Saint Paul will be submitted to PCR for detection of the invA gene using two distinct schemes. (AU)
