Abstract

The aim of the study is to evaluate the changes of color, the surface morphology and the interfacial adaptation of MTA and Portland cement associated with different radiopacifiers and vehicles. The cements will be divided into 6 groups: I - white MTA (control), II - white Portland cement (PC), III - PC with 20% zirconium oxide, IV - PC with 40% zirconium oxide, V - PC with 20% calcium tungstate, VI - PC with 40% calcium tungstate. Each group will be subdivided according to the liquid used to manipulate: distilled water or an experimental liquid composed by 20% Propylene glycol and 80% distilled water, proportioned by volume. For analysis of the color change, the materials will be placed into teflon rings with 20 mm diameter and 2 mm high, being made 30 rings for each group. After setting time, the materials will be submitted to color analysis using spectrophotometry and posterior x-ray microanalysis for identification of surface morphology. Posteriorly, ten rings of each group will be immersed in ultrapure water, artificial saliva or bovine blood. After 7 days, a spectrophometric and x-ray microanalysis will be performed. This procedure will be repeated every 7 days until 60 days. For the interfacial adaptation test, 120 extracted human roots with 15 mm length will be used. These roots will be horizontally resected and a cavity with 3 mm depth and 1 mm diameter performed. The roots will be divided into in 12 groups (n=10) according to the cement used to fill the cavities. The samples will be submitted to scanning electron microscopy (SEM) at low vacuum for analysis of interfacial adaptation. Then, the roots will be submitted to testing for leakage of fluids (Flodec System) followed by a SEM analysis to evaluate the interfacial adaptation. The results will be submitted to a preliminary test of D'Agostino and Pearson to verify the presence or absence of normal distribution (p<0.05).
