Abstract

The aim of the study will be to analyze the chemical-physical properties and bioactivity of 4 retrograde filling materials with alternative radiopacifiers and vehicle in comparison with the MTA Angelus. Three experimental cements (white Portland cement (PC) with 30% of zirconium oxide (ZO); PC with 30% of calcium tungstate (CT); Sealepox RP) and MTA Vitalcem will be tested in comparison with MTA Angelus. After incubation at 37ºC and 99% relative humidity, calcium and hydroxyl ion release will be tested up to 28 days in deionized water. Water absorption, interconnected pores and apparent porosity will be measured after 24 hours of immersion in deionized water at 37ºC. In the solubility test, the root-end fillings of 40 acrylic teeth will be scanned twice by a Micro-CT, before and after immersion in ultrapure water for 168 h. Digital data will be reconstructed, and the volume (mm3) of the samples will be obtained using CTan software. The morphologic and elemental analysis of the materials' surfaces will be examined using an environmental scanning electron microscope/energy dispersive x-ray (SEM/EDX) analysis after storage at 37ºC for 1-180 days in simulated body fluid using the ISO 23317 method. The results will be submitted to the normality test of D'Agostino and Pearson in order to choose the most adequate statistical test (p < 0.05). (AU)
