Abstract

The neural mechanisms of decision-making define the transition from sensory input and perceptual construction to those responsible for action selection and execution. In this project, sequences of repeated binary choices will be employed to investigate the role of distinct perceptual dimensions (spatial, chromatic, semantic or affective stimuli) in defining decision-making strategies employed by groups of both healthy and cognitively impaired volunteers. By manipulating the perceptual dimension of the sensory input as well as the degree of randomness of a sequence of binary choices, we hope to conceive a more unified theoretical model for the cognitive processes underlying human decision making.
