Abstract

Several nutritional strategies have been studied to reduce the process of biohydrogenation of unsaturated fatty acids in the rumen. Glycerol associated with fat sources decreases ruminal lipolysis in vitro and possibly increase the ruminal escape of unsaturated fatty acids. Glycerol can alter the proportion of the microorganisms that perform the biohydrogenation. However, there are few studies that assess the associations between the fatty acid profile of the diet and the microorganisms present in the rumen. The internship abroad aims to discuss the data of fatty acid profile and the relative quantification of ruminal microorganisms by quantitative real time PCR (qPCR). To accomplish this, we will use the database from the dissertation (FAPESP-2012/13122-4) that presents the quantification of in vitro fatty acid profile using soybean and linseed oil with the inclusion of glycerol. The internship will be developed Rowett Institute of Nutrition and Health at University of Aberdeen, located in Scotland. The candidate will present the data of dissertation to Professor John Wallace and will have the opportunity to follow studies with other methods of quantification of ruminal microorganisms and will bring new knowledge to share with his research group.
