Abstract

ABSTRACTIntroduction: The cold water immersion has been submitted as widely used technique in exercise recovery, acting on different outcomes. However, it is evident shortage of studies to answer questions about the effectiveness of it, considering the question dose response. Thus, the cold water immersion requires a better scientific basis in order to eliminate possible biases routines and interpretation of results. Objectives: analyze and compare the effect of cold water immersion after exercise-induced muscle damage from eccentric different temperatures on clinical aspects (perception of pain, recovery and sensitivity changes), biochemical (creatine kinase) and functional (assessment of muscle function). Methods: The study will consist of 48 male subjects, randomly allocated into three groups: a control group (CG) and two intervention recuperative (G1, G2). Individuals will be submitted to the protocol to induce muscle damage through eccentric exercise through isokinetic dynamometer and immediately after and 24, 48, 72 and 96 hours will be immersed in cold water for 15 minutes (G1: 9 ± 1 º C; G2 : 14 ± 1 º C). The variables will be collected prior to the exercise, 24, 48, 72 and 96 hours after the end of the exercise and always before immersion, with the exception of the first day. The distribution for normality of the data will be tested using the Kolmogorov-Smirnov test. In case of normal distribution, will be adopted the Student t test for unpaired data and Mann-Whitney test if no normal distribution. To compare the intervention and control groups will be the technique of analysis the variance for repeated measures model, the two-factor, followed by the test of Student-Newman-Keuls (SNK) for parametric data and Dunn for nonparametric data considering the level of 5% in the comparisons. Keywords: Cryotherapy; Recovery of Function; Young Adult.
