Abstract

The research deals with the eclecticism and unevenly as manifested in Brazil, besides the established relationships between architecture and society that constituted that this appropriated. The analysis will be through the case study of the city of Teresina, with a focus on residential buildings originally eclectic downtown area. Eclecticism came to this late compared to the major centers of the country, under a context that involved, among many factors, economic and technical difficulties, and resulted in an eclectic architecture particular to this. The aim is then to characterize and analyze the production of this architecture as well as its distribution in the city, focusing on the actors involved in this process of dissemination, the characteristics of the buildings and their changes over time, and the appropriation of society thus Teresina making architecture.
