Abstract

Physical inactivity is seen as one of the greatest public health problems nowadays. Even though beneficial in many diseases, the rates of physical inactivity and withdrawal of exercise programs are high. The prescribed exercise intensity can affect psychophysiological states and therefore influence exercise adherence, and it is known that there is high variability in these responses even to the same relative exercise intensity among individuals. Thus, the purposes of these studies are: (1) to translate and culturally adapt a preference intensity and exercise tolerance questionnaire (PRETIE-Q) to Portuguese (Brazil); (2) apply the translated and culturally adapted questionnaire to a population sample in order to examine preference of exercise intensity patterns; (3) test whether individual exercise intensity preferences bring psychophysiology benefits during and after exercise compared to non-preferred intensities. It will be used the translation and back-translation method, questionnaire application, and treadmill exercise, respectively, for the three studies. The analysis will be made by the following tests: Cronbach coefficient, intraclass correlation coefficient, exploratory factor analysis, Poisson regression and two-factor repeated measures ANOVA.
