Abstract The purpose of this study is to characterize the morphology of sweet potato clones from collection in the Vale do Ribeira. The study will take place at the Experimental Farm of the University Estadual Paulista, Campus Experimental of Registro. In September of the year 2013 will be produced seedlings of sweet potato clones and subsequent transplantation in October. The morphological characterization of vegetative shoots will be done with the material in full vegetative growth, yet the morphological root will be held at the time of harvest. Will be evaluated: leaf size, general profile of the leaf, the leaf lobe type, number of leaf lobes, shape of the central lobe of the leaf, color of mature leaf, color of immature leaf, pigmentation of the petiole, petiole length, pigmentation of the below lower ribs, predominant color of branches, secondary color of branches, pubescence of the branches apex, root shape, root surface defects, thickness of cortex, periderm predominant color, color intensity, color of periderm and secondary predominant color pulp. Through morphological vegetative characters measured, there will be an estimated genetic divergence (genetic similarity groups) by multivariate analysis, using the principal components analysis, with genotypes grouped Tocher method.
