Abstract

The study aims to analyze the involvement of a number of readers of Karl Marx - members of the chair of Sociology I and seminars of readings of The Capital - in the initiatives on the university reform in the former Faculty of Philosophy, Sciences and Letters of the University of São Paulo (FFCL-USP), in the years between 1962 and 1970. During this period, the academic community - constituted by various categories of faculty (professors, assistants, supernumerary) and the student body - was asked to elaborate projects of university reform and/or take a position regarding them. At that time, the universe of reading circles of Karl Marx, in the orbit of the chair of Sociology I, led by Florestan Fernandes, grouped practitioners of modern modes of organization of scientific work, focused opinions and political energies of multiple hues, to the left, and gradually shielding itself, establishing a international network of support. Investigating the links between the generational/academic position of the agents in this space and their proposals/takings of position relating to projects of the university reform: this is the objective of the research.
