Abstract

Hypoparathyroidism is very common and unpleasant complication in patients undergoing thyroidectomy, including being a situation that can lead to risk of death, so it is extremely important that there is a quick and effective way to make the diagnosis of hypoparathyroidism. Upon this, this project proposes the analysis of serum calcium levels in the first postoperative day after total thyroidectomy as a predictor of the development or not of hypoparathyroidism. The study will be done by means of statistical analysis and search for correlation between serum levels of calcium ionic on the first day after surgery and intraoperative parathyroid hormone to be raised in medical records of patients who underwent total thyroidectomy.
