Abstract

This project aims to carry out an internship at the University of Evora, under the guidance of Professor Fernanda Olival. The prevailing intention is to fulfill some of the demands that arose during the development of the research I conducted for my Master's Degree. There is a need of documentary research in the Portuguese archives to combine the data already recorded and transcribed by myself in the Brazilian archives. Without that documental supplement, the dissertation will miss its appropriate critical apparatus. Also, there is a need to have access to a more recent and extensive bibliography referencing layman brotherhoods composed by mechanic officers located in the Kingdom throughout Modernity, as well as access to the most recent historiographical discussions about the valuation of manual labor in the Kingdom during the eighteenth century, along with the presence, or lack thereof a philosophical change on valuation work in Portugal during the first and second halves of the eighteenth century (a period of Pombal's pragmatics). It is our belief that with this internship, combined with the bibliographical and documentary research to be archived in the files and libraries in Portugal, the dissertation will gain a more theoretical foundation, a more inclusive historiographical discussion, as well as an extensive critical documental apparatus.
