Abstract

The information, in all ways, is a key variable to think about the uses of territory in contemporary world. In the last decades together with the upgrading and a bigger diffusion of the informational flows we presence the global expansion of informational firms, including market research firms, whose role has proved decisive in directing of strategies for the capital reproduction. Between these companies we can highlight the American Nielsen Company, the british Kantar and the brazilian IBOPE. We propose to investigate the role of market research agencies (especially the IBOPE Group) in the dynamics of the Brazilian territory.We will seek understand the genesis of the Group, the expansion of the network of offices, the production and dissemination of information on urban network routed to market strategies. We will also analyze the possible relations between the information as a commodity and strategic production and rational of the geographical space.It is worth noting that this work intends to be a deepening of a Scientific Initiation project funded by FAPESP in 2012, which had a duration of nine months, conducted in the period of graduation. In this way, it has been initiated in the framework of the scientific initiation, a survey of data about the network topology of the Group IBOPE and typology of information that are produced by the company in Brazil. As the object of study (IBOPE Group) was proving to be extremely complex, many important issues have emerged and many others could not be clarified, given the short time. Thus, it is necessary, through more thorough study provided by Master's program, continue unraveling the role of IBOPE Group on the production, control and dissemination of information in Brazil. It is a subject still little studied and worthy of attention, given the importance of this company in the modernization process of Brazilian territory from the control of the key variable of the current period.
