Abstract

The characterization of the spatial pattern of soil CO2 emission (FCO2) in agricultural areas is an important task, since it is the main gas responsible for the greenhouse effect. The objective of this work will be to characterize the spatiotemporal patterns of FCO2, by multivariate and geostatistical techniques, and its relation to soil physical and chemical properties. The experimental plot will be located in an agricultural area near to the city of Ilha Solteira, SP, Brazil. Soil properties variability will be initially analyses by descriptive statistics, linear correlation and multiple linear regression analysis. The geostatistical analysis will be performed by calculating the semivariance as a function of separation distance (experimental variogram). The multivariate structure of the original dataset will be evaluated by cluster analysis (hierarchical and non-hierarchical methods) and principal component analysis. It is expected that the multivariate structure was characteristic of the agricultural environment, since soil use and management define the variability patterns of soil CO2 emission and its relationship with the physical and chemical properties.
