Abstract

Due to increasingly restrictive legislations concerning environmental pollution, there has been a wide interest in the design and fabrication of sensors and biosensors for heavy metals, pesticides, pharmaceuticals, etc. In such development, the main parameters to be considered for electrochemical sensors-especially those to pesticide detection-are reproducibility, selectivity, sensitivity, long-term stability, portability, ease of use, and cost-effectiveness. Driven by these characteristics, the utilization of nanomaterials for electrochemical sensing devices has drawn attention due to their size dependent properties - i.e., large surface-to-volume ratios; physicochemical properties, composition, and shape; as well as their binding capability, mainly with biomolecules. Herein, we propose to develop an amperometric platform based on graphene modified with quantum dots emitting fluorescence at different wavelengths aiming to maximize the biosensor sensitivity for target pollutants. Acetylcholinesterase will be immobilized on the modified electrode surface for the indirect pesticide detection. (AU)
