Abstract

The present research project is part of a long-term experiment, installed in 2002/03, at Fazenda Experimental Lageado of São Paulo State University, Agronomic Sciences Faculty, Campus of Botucatu. Neither the physical attributes of the soil nor the quality of soil organic matter have ever been evaluated since the implementation of this experiment which is probably the only one in São Paulo State with more than ten years of evaluation. Thus, continuing this experiment, the present proposal aims to evaluate the effect of superficial application of limestone and gypsum in the chemical characteristics of the soil, which has been evaluated annually since the installation of this experiment, but mainly the physical properties of the soil and the quality of soil organic matter, as well as the root growth, nutrition and grain productivity of wheat and bean crops, in a dry winter region. The wheat sowing was held in April 2013 and will be sowed again in April 2014. The bean sowing will be November 2013 and 2014. The experimental design will be in randomized blocks in parcel scheme subdivided, with 4 repetitions. The plots are composed of four limestone levels (0, 1000, 2000 and 4000 kg ha-1) and the subplots are composed of two agricultural gypsum levels (0 and 2100 kg ha-1). The following evaluations will be carried out: macro and micronutrients contents, production components, grain crop productivity, soil physical properties, organic matter fractionation and limestone soil residual.
