Abstract

The project will address the short story "Fatalidade", which is in the book João Guimarães Rosa's Primeiras estórias, and the singing XXII of Homer's Iliad, through the analytical bias of reception studies. We intend to discuss how the research of the receipt of a classic text by a modern author enables the interpreter to a different critical reading of the two texts. The central theme is connected to the representation of dueling scenes in both texts such as the participation of a third element, in the case of the Iliad, a god, in the "Fatalidade", the police chief who has the authority.
