Abstract

The present study aims to evaluate the hematological parameters and serum protein concentrations, with an emphasis on acute-phase proteins and immunoglobulins in healthy newborn buffalo calves. Venous blood samples of Jaffarabadi healthy male and female buffalo calves with 1 to 7-day-old (G1, n = 20), 8 to 14-day-old (G2, n = 20) 15 to 21-day-old (G3, n = 20), and 22 to 28-day-old (G4, n = 20) will be collected. Blood cell count, white blood cell, platelet count, hemoglobulin concentration, packed cell volume, and hematological indices (mean corpuscular volume - MCV, mean corpuscular hemoglobin - MCH, and mean corpuscular hemoglobin concentration - MCHC) will be determined. Will also be evaluated serum activity of gamma-glutamyl transferase (GGT) and serum iron. The concentrations of acute-phase proteins and serum immunoglobulins will be determined by means of sodium dodecyl sulfate-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE). (AU)
