Abstract Understanding of microstructure on commercial aluminum alloys is considered a knowledge of essential interest nowadays, especially concerning distribution of intermetallic particles and its dependence on solidification thermal parameters. Optimized mechanical properties can be obtained if deep understanding is achieved regarding not only cell/dendritic growth but also size, shape and distribution of intermetallic. Based on lack of studies emphasizing transient solidification of ternary Al-based alloys, the present work aims to perform solidification experiments under unsteady-state heat flow regime on AlFeMg alloys. The results are expected to include: macrostructure, microstructure, solidification thermal variables, microstructure size/scale parameters and segregation. At the end, experimental correlations between microstructure and tensile mechanical parameters will be established. | |
