Abstract

Assess the communication skills of children with hearing loss is of utmost importance, since it is essential to monitor the development of hearing for verification and planning the process of reabilitation.On the national scene there is no standardized test for the assessment of speech perception in noise for use in children. Thus, this paper proposes a cultural adaptation of the test Phrases in noise test (PINT) (Schafer et al, 2005, 2006, 2012)to Portuguese Brazilian and its applicability in evaluating the benefit of Frequency Modulation Systems in children under five years of age. PINT assesses the ability to recognize phrases and simple instructions on noise .The motivation for this work is to contribute to the improvement of protocols for assessment of auditory skills of children with hearing loss, especially users of the Frequency Modulation System.
