Aiming to explore the use of the plant cell wall polysaccharides as a renewable source to the production of biofuels and other bio-derived complex a repertoire of hydrolytic enzymes are needed. The objective of this proposal is study the thermophilic enzymes and associated proteins in the digestion of lignocellulosic materials. The exploration of these enzymes will be addressed with secretome and transcriptome tools, which will include the formation of an enzyme library from thermophilic fungi. We also expected to contribute to better with the understanding of the relationships between structure and function of these macromolecules through functional and structural studies of the obtained recombinant enzymes using techniques of protein crystallography and small angle X-ray scattering and contribute toward development of enzymatic cocktails for lignocellulosic biomass hydrolysis.
