Abstract

The Young and Adult Education is a problem that is directly related to the socioeconomic structure in the formation of Brazilian society: the illiteracy. Inside this subject, the Educational Project of Young and Adults (Projeto de Educação de Jovens e Adultos /P.E.J.A) associated with the Universidade Estadual Paulista "Júlio de Mesquita Filho" (University of the State of São Paulo/UNESP) Campus Assis, proposes practices that intend to change the condition in which still lives significant part of the Brazilian population: 12.9 million, according the National Sample Survey of Households (PNAD/IBGE), in a research made 2011. In a life changing perspective, P.E.J.A possibilities two ways of learning: for the students, who have the opportunity to learn to read and write, so that they can access the literate world, and for the teachers, undergraduate students, who support this cause and add experiences to their academic formation. About that, this research will to identify and understand, based on memories that were told by the students that participate in P.E.J.A, the social representations included in the structure that gave no access to the school and their developments. After that, will verify how this project changed the way these students used to see the school before they return to the studies, and the influence of the process of literacy in the way now the students see the school. To build this methodology Oral History resources will be used, in order to give the students the opportunity to express themselves, and then we will see that their stories intersect with a large socio-historical context.
