Abstract

The commercial and service activities are relevant to understanding the new relationships between consumption, urban restructuring and the middle-sized cities restructuring process. Therefore, the restructuring of the Brazilian cities has as one of its many determinations, various elements that redefine their morphologies. The commercial and service activities, particularly those that can be classified as responsible for productive consumption (like commercial and service businesses associated with industrial and/or associated with the agribusiness sector, as much as those with strong participation of foreign capital as those managed by local capital) can be considered responsible for absorbing portion of the urban space and, therefore, for the cities restructuring. This research aims to mapping the locational choices of the companies responsible for productive consumption in Brazil, evaluating the strategies within the urban network and on the scale of the city, especially in those studied by Thematic Project.
