Abstract

This project wants to understand the strategic use that men make of São Paulo aiming mobile digital media to build relationships with other men in secret. My research will be based on the city of São Carlos, in the central region, and will focus on the use of applications seeking romantic and sexual partners of men between 18 and 35 years old. From the hypothesis that the dynamics of visibility/concealment of homoerotic relationships in São Paulo aims to maintain safety in work places and family. In dialogue with Queer Theory, Brazilian studies about sexuality and other research on digital media, seek to understand the association between use of digital media technologies mobile body seeking to create a virile performance, which is highly valued in a context of uncertainty social and even violence to non-heterosexual in the interior. Articulating the ethnographic work, interviews and sources on the uses of digital media research aims to understand how management visibility, access to intercity mobility operates on the cleavages of class, race, ethnicity, gender, generation, location, lifestyle, education and access to consumption.
