Abstract Sickle cell disease is the most common and severe monogenic disorder worldwide. It is characterized by episodes of acute disability and progressive organ damage. In order to treat the symptoms of this disease, a phtalimide derivative, LAPDESF-SCD03, was planned to have nitric oxide donor activity and anti-inflammatory activity, which has been shown in published studies. The characterization of drug metabolites is extremely important since drug metabolite activity is one of the leading causes considered as the reason for unexpected drug safety issues and therefore withdraws in drug research and development. Metabolites can also be the chemical species responsible for the desired biological activity. In this project we propose the use of modern bioanalytical techniques such as high-resolution mass spectrometry (HRMS) for structural elucidation of metabolites from the compound LAPDESF-SCD03 metabolized on rat plasma and hepatocytes.
