Abstract

Co-occurrence patterns of species in communities arise from evolutionary and ecological processes, which vary at different spatial and temporal scales. Streams and ponds are known to be structurally different with distinct anuran species composition. We know that the anuran tadpoles of the species that breed in streams exhibit morphological specializations and/or behavior that enable them to live in fast-flowing streams, while tadpoles from ponds do not exhibit such specializations. But, are the phylogenetic and functional diversity patterns between ponds and streams different? Do exist similar patterns of diversity (functional and phylogenetic) on different biomes? Which processes produce these possible differences? With this research we want to analyze the tadpoles phylogenetic and functional diversity patterns in ponds and streams, seeking to determine the responsible processes for assembly communities. To investigate these questions, we going to determine the environmental features and tadpoles functional traits related to habitat use. Considering environmental features differences between ponds and streams impose different selective pressures, our hypothesis is that tadpoles communities in these two types of environments have different patterns of phylogenetic and functional diversity.
