Abstract

Based on the bioecological perspective of development, this project focus on academic achievement and stress trajectories in the first three years of elementary school, focusing on the Person (Child), Context (Family and School), Process and Time. The proposal consists in a deepening of the longitudinal data analysis carried out by Correia-Zanini (2013). Considering that on the original research the analytical procedures detected only modal tendencies, shadowing individual variations in the course of time, a reanalysis of data is proposed, employing statistical models with enough power to identify different development trajectories and the variables related. The project aims to identify developmental trajectories of academic competence and stress symptoms in children through the first three years of elementary school, and to test prediction models for differing trajectories, considering variables related to family (socialeconomical level, family resources), school (location, IDEB, and stressors) and child (social skills, cognitive potential, and behavior problems). Data from 151 children assessed in the first, second, and third grade of elementary school will be analyzed, as well as those from families of 105 participants. The data will be explored by means of trajectories identification, group comparison, clusters analysis and structural equation modeling. A sound contribution from this study to the knowledge of the processes involved in childrens' school path during the first cycle of elementary school is expected.Keywords: Trajectories, Academic Achievement, Academic Competence, Infantile Stress, Bioecological Model.
