Abstract

Social Skills can be define as skills that facilitate and maintain positive socialrelationships, help acceptance by peers and assist in school adjustment. They areinitially learn in the family and later in environments like school. Among the SocialSkills, Interpersonal Problem Solving Skills are of great importance because theycontribute to the reduction of behavioral problems in the classroom. This study aims toevaluate and characterize the Social Skills, focusing on Interpersonal Problem SolvingSkills, of elementary school students, comparing them between the sexes and betweentwo moments of the school year and relating them to behavior problems, academicperformance and educational practice of teachers. It is insert into a larger projectentitled "New subsidies for the prevention of adaptive difficulties in school". It willcount with the participation of 90 children of elementary school, of both sexes, aged 6and 11, and their teachers. The data collection will occur in two municipal schools ofSertaozinho city in the state of São Paulo. The instruments that will be used are:"System of Evaluation of Social Skills (version for teachers)", "Interpersonal ProblemSolving Survey on Children" and teacher's room diaries. The results will be quoteaccording to the propositions of each instrument and translated to spreadsheets forfurther statistical analysis. For the content of class daily qualitative analyzes will beperform.
