Abstract

Resistance training is widely practiced in the prevention and treatment of chronic degenerative diseases, especially when related to metabolic syndrome (MS), but its real effects in this population remain uncertain. This fact can be explained by the use of different methodologies, not observing the progression of loads and control sets and repetitions present in a proper periodization. Objective: To investigate, through systematic review, methods and periodization used to have better outcomes in relation to markers of MS, clinical variables and quality of life. Methods: will be considered only articles that use resistance training as treatment of MS. Articles will be selected from the electronic search in MEDLINE, SciELO, PEDro, EMBASE, Sports Discus and The Cochrane Library databases using the keywords: metabolic syndrome; metabolic syndrome x; resisted training; strength training. Will be included randomized controlled trials without restricting sample to find outcomes such as: waist circumference, HDL-cholesterol, glucose, triglycerides, blood pressure, muscle strength and quality of life.
