Abstract

Doxycycline hyclate is a semisythetic broad spectrum antibiotic derivated from oxytetracycline used in human medicine as an anti infectious for general illnesses and specific diseases such as plague and trachoma and also as an anti-paristic in cases of malaria. In veterinary medicine it is used as a food supplement. The pharmaceutical is shown in the National List of Essential Pharmaceuticals thus it is available in the Unified Health System (hereby SUS) and it is free delivered at Basic Health Unities. It is also available in The Popular Pharmacy Program at a lower cost. In Brazil doxycycline hyclate is marketd by pharmaceutical companies Apotex, EMS, Germerd, Hexal, Legrand, Neo Química, Neovita, Pfizer, Ranbaxy, Sanval, Teuto and União Química and it is offered as pharmaceutical preparations: pellets, capsules, tablets and syrup. The present study aims to develop a short term stability study of doxycycline hyclate in tablets and in raw material using turbidimetric method, ultraviolet spectrophotometry and high performance liquid chromatography.
