Abstract

The proposed project will entail a three month stay at the University of Bielefeld, Germany, during the months of May, June and July 2014, in which the research student will look into applying chemical modifications to Copalic acid, and ent-agatic acid, to generate new derivatives that will be fully analysed and characterised using NMR, IR and mass spectrometry techniques. Once the three month placement is complete, the project student will look to test for the biological activity of these compounds against leishmania cell lines and has the possibility to be run against tuberculosis.
